Weekend Wrap-Up, A New Picture Scavenger Hunt (for the Older Crowd), A Restaurant Review - Post Office Pies

Good Wednesday evening!

RANDOMNESS #1 - As I mentioned in my last post, Roxie's Senior Prom was held this past Friday night. She and some friends ate at The Club overlooking Birmingham (beautiful), and had their pictures taken.

As you might recall, it was a gray, blustery, coolish kind of day.

I LOVED IT!

Some of the girls wearing prom dresses...

Not so much!

Roxie... Before hair and makeup.

Roxie... Mid hair and makeup.

Roxie... All done!

We weren't expecting Josh, but he walked in as we were leaving.

It was such a nice surprise!

Mike and Roxie at The Club.

Hunter and Roxie!

Hannah and Roxie.

Hunter's lovely sisters, Haley and Hanna Ray, came to give their photo op support!

Ragan and Mason.

Mason and Roxie.

Hannah, Ally, Ragan, Alyssa and Roxie.

Seth and Roxie.

Ragan and Roxie.

As you can see, everyone was beautiful, and a great time was had by all at dinner AND the Prom.

Roxie declared it a huge success!

RANDOMNESS #2 - We are going to be celebrating Easter (April 5) with Mike's side of the family, so we got together with my side this past Sunday.

I got this idea off of Pinterest...

Except for the demonic-looking bunny eyes, it turned out pretty cute.

Grandmother makes the Easter Bunny cake every year. It has something for everyone... chocolate, coconut and/or vanilla.

Four decorated tables total, and all were different.

Josh and his girlfriend, Courtney, came all the way from Hartselle.

And this Mama was very happy.

Austin and Melia.

Brad and Stephanie.

Hunter, Roxie, Zac and Katie.

Katie won the "I traveled the most miles" award.

She drove in from Texas to take care of some business and stayed the rest of the week.

And that made HER Mama very happy, too.

Restaurant Review - Post Office Pies

Mike and I went with some friends this past weekend to Post Office Pies in Avondale.

I first spotted this little gem on a list of 15 Places to Eat in Birmingham...

Or something like that.

Anyway, we decided to give it a try.

When we first arrived, we noticed a bunch of tables outside and in the alley.

To the 53-and-older-crowd, we immediately assumed there was no room in the tiny dive restaurant.

However, as soon as we walked in, we were very pleased to discover a much larger dining area than we had originally thought with LOTS of long rectangular tables. And if you didn't have a party of six, it was okay. You could just sit at the end of someone else's table.

NOTE - We went on a Sunday night. I have no idea how busy or crowded the place gets on a Friday or Saturday. You just need to go with an open mind and some patience... just in case.

As the name suggests, it was once an old post office, and there is nothing fancy about the inside.

The pizza is very good, but not fast.

The atmosphere is loud, but not offensive. Once you and your friends find your "loud" voices, talking is not a huge problem.

The service is kind of "take care of yourself." Once your pizza and drink are delivered to you, you refill your own drink, grab your own take-home box and generally, just enjoy the pie. (You do NOT have to clear your own table. PLUS!)

All in all, the atmosphere has that "urban hipster" feel to it which so appeals to me for some odd reason.

The pizza is as good as Slice pizza, but there is a definite difference in the two. The prices are close to the same, also.

We will most definitely be going back, but we want to take the kiddults with us next time.

Spring Picture Scavenger Hunt

I made this game for us to play at Grandmother's if the guys felt like it, or we had the time.

As it happened, everyone had a really good time just talking and catching up with each other, so we'll do it a different day...

Or you can do it with yours tomorrow!

SPRING SHAMROCK EASTER BUNNY PIC RACE (or SSEBPC)

READ EACH TASK CAREFULLY. LEAVING SOMETHING OUT CAN RESULT IN LOSS!

YOU HAVE 35 MINUTES. DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME, AND THEN RETURN TO THE HOUSE. FOR EVERY 5 MINUTES YOU ARE LATE, 1 POINT WILL BE DEDUCTED.

ALSO, APPOINT A PICTURE-TAKING PERSON.

1. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY EASTER FLAG AND/OR ST. PATRICK’S DAY FLAG YOU FIND HANGING ON FRONT OF A HOUSE OR BUILDING. TAKE A PICTURE!

2. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY GREEN HOUSE YOU FIND. (THE HOUSE ITSELF MUST BE GREEN. A GREEN DOOR OR GREEN SHUTTERS ONLY DO NOT COUNT!) TAKE A PICTURE!

3. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY CROSS YOU SEE IN FRONT OF A CHURCH. (TAKE A PICTURE!)

4. BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A TULIP BED OR A BUNCH OF JONQUILS. TAKE A PICTURE OF ONE OR THE OTHER ANY TIME DURING THE RACE. (YOU ONLY HAVE TO FIND 1.)

5. GO TO DOLLAR TREE AND (USING THE $5 IN THE ENVELOPE) PURCHASE 1 EASTER ITEM. IF ANOTHER TEAM HAPPENS TO PURCHASE THE SAME ITEM, IT WILL CANCEL BOTH TEAMS OUT, AND NO ONE WILL RECEIVE THIS POINT.

6. PULL THE CAR OVER. SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR, YOU WILL FIND A PAIR OF BUNNY EARS. BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE AGAIN, TAKE A PICTURE OF EACH TEAM MEMBER WEARING THE BUNNY EARS.

7. GO TO MCDONALD’S AND BUY A SMALL SHAMROCK SHAKE AND FOUR OR FIVE STRAWS. (USE THE LEFTOVER MONEY IN THE ENVELOPE.) PARK THE CAR AND DRINK THE SHAKE UNTIL EMPTY. EACH MEMBER MUST DRINK AT LEAST ONE DRINK FROM THE SHAKE. (TAKE A PICTURE OF THE EMPTY CUP.)

8. GO TO THE PARK AT ____________________. YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING TO DO WITH ST. PATRICK’S DAY HANGING SOMEWHERE ON THE FENCE. GRAB 1 AND GO.

NOTE - I had bought Shamrock necklaces from The Dollar Tree and hung them on different areas of the fence.

9. PULL THE CAR OVER. SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR IS A PINK PEEP IN A ZIPLOC BAG. FIND IT AND TAKE A PICTURE OF 1 TEAM MEMBER EATING IT!

10. HEAD BACK TO THE HOUSE!

At the end of the race, you sit down with one member of each team and the phone camera giving them the applicable points.

The winning team can be given candy or Shamrock hats or Bunny ears. (It doesn't have to be elaborate.)

I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday. I'll be back soon with some SPRING stuff! I'm a Fall/Winter girl at heart, but I have to admit, even I am enjoying the warm weather.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda
